Liquid Nitrogen can be used in either gaseous or liquid form, depending on the application.

Nitrogen gas is colourless, odourless, non-toxic and almost totally inert. It constitutes 78% of the atmospheric air, but it is an asphyxiant if levels increase to a point where insufficient oxygen is present. This is particularly important to remember when working in confined spaces with nitrogen.

In liquid form it is a refrigerated liquified gas with a boiling point of -196°C.
