Storing Liquid Nitrogen

You will need somewhere to safely store the liquid nitrogen.  Only ever use proper vacuum insulated, open dewars.  Anything else can be extremely dangerous.  You can buy or rent these dewars from BOC.

25 litre aluminium dewars are the most popular choice with practices, but we can advise you on the right choice for you.  A full 25 L dewar will last approx. 100 days before all the N2 has evaporated if it is left to sit without being used.  Most practices find a 25 L dewar in use for cryosurgery lasts 4 - 6 weeks.  How long yours will last depends on a number of factors such as how often you use it and where you store it.

Dispensing Liquid Nitrogen

Liquid nitrogen can be dispensed into the cryosurgery applicator by tipping or by using a withdrawal device.  The withdrawal device is the safest and easiest way.  These can also be bought or rented from BOC

Protective Clothing

Anyone handling liquid nitrogen should wear eye protection and cryogenic gloves as a minimum.  Without these there is a danger of a severe cold burn to the eyes or skin.  See the options available at BOC.

Oxygen Monitoring

Will the liquid nitrogen dewar always kept outside?

If stored or used in an enclosed space, there is a danger of asphyxiation if nitrogen displaces too much oxygen within that space.  Only an oxygen monitor can tell you if the enclosed space is safe to enter and remain in.

The One2 One oxygen monitor is very simple to install and use.  You simply stick one part in the room with the liquid nitrogen and the other part outside the room.  It is battery powered and the two parts are connected by a cable.  You can see the % oxygen on a display and if the level becomes low, a warning alarm will sound.

Applicators

Cryosurgery applicators are used for the cryosurgery itself.

We sell 2 applicators.  One holds 330 mL and one holds 450 mL.  The 450 mL is the most popular and the liquid lasts about 12 hours if left.  The smaller applicator is better for people with smaller hands.

Each instrument is supplied in its own tough carrying case complete with a range of spray tips and instructions. The equipment is CE marked as required.
